Just to be able to work on the roof safely required the contractor to place 20-ton anchors around the perimeter to hold safety lines. Man lifts and a crane with an aerial basket were also used for crew safety, and the easy application of Inland’s polyester fabric, RC-2250 Flashing Compound and RC-2000 Rubber Roof Coating also took the pressure off the crew. The contractor constantly monitored the temperature, fog, mist and wind around Cook Inlet, choosing application times for both crew safety and consistent application quality.
Because of the complexity of the project — it started in May and was completed in August — Inland not only provided products but also consulted with contractors on other projects around the facility. The customer was pleased with the final result, and the long-term durability of the roof coating ensures that the customer won’t have to invest in the roof again for a long time.
In fact, shortly after the project was completed, the roof had its first major test when the area was hit with 16 consecutive days of hard-driving rain. It marked the first time in years that the roof didn’t leak. Because the customer no longer suffers product damage from leaks, it’s estimated that the entire cost of the project will be recovered in production savings within 12 to 18 months.
