As winter winds down and warmer months approach, it’s natural to think about protecting or repairing your metal roof with a rubber coating. But there’s a reason for the saying, “April showers bring May flowers.” Spring rain can cause corrosion on metal roofs and make it difficult to schedule coating applications when weather changes quickly.

That’s why Inland SEBS products are so trusted. They develop early water resistance, which essentially eliminates the risk of wash-off in rapidly changing weather conditions.

Inland and Early Water Resistance

One of Inland’s most notable projects took place at Labrador NATO Base in Happy Valley–Goose Bay, Newfoundland. While the project covered approximately 14,000 square feet of metal roofing, the urgency was significant due to fast-changing weather.

The roof system, a through-panel screw-fastened standing seam configuration, needed products that cured quickly. RC-2250, Fabric, and RC-2000 were used to address seams, fasteners, and penetrations.

Although the factory-painted finish was in generally good condition, a through-the-roof air handler had been causing ongoing issues. A temporary “cricket” made from foam insulation, OSB, and vinyl tarps had been installed previously. Inland removed the temporary materials and installed a permanent solution, fully sealed with Inland products.

RC-2000 completed the job just in time, curing before heavy rainfall began.

Hail and Your Metal Roof

Hail is another factor to consider during volatile spring and summer weather. Hail can cause cosmetic damage to metal roofs, damage seams, and reduce the roof’s ability to shed water.

RC-2000 helps protect against hail damage and can potentially save time and money on insurance claims. Because it cures quickly, RC-2000 can be applied even when the weather is unpredictable.

How Water Resistance Is Achieved

Inland products resist water, corrosion, and extreme weather due to their strong adhesion to properly prepared surfaces. RC-2000 is thermally stable and offers 87% solar reflectance, helping prevent peeling and cracking caused by UV exposure and harsh weather.

RC-2000 can be applied in temperatures ranging from 40°–110° F (4.4°–43.3°C), providing a wide and flexible installation window.

Don’t Let Bad Weather Stop You from Coating Your Metal Roof

Inland products can be applied to multiple roof types, including metal roofs and single-ply systems such as TPO, EPDM, and Hypalon. Modified bitumen, BUR, and SPUF roofing systems can also be coated with Inland products.

Beyond early water resistance, Inland’s synthetic rubber coatings offer additional benefits. RC-2000 is ENERGY STAR rated and carries a Class A fire rating, helping reduce energy costs while increasing building safety.

This spring, don’t let unstable weather stop you from repairing and protecting your metal roof.
