Common Metal Roof Problems and Solutions
Metal roofs are a significant investment. Their service life ranges […]
It’s hard to find a roofing product that will effectively protect your building for years, or preferably decades. Metal is often chosen for its durability, recyclability, and cost. However, when a metal roof is located in a coastal area, salty sea air can cause corrosion, leading to rust, leaks, and other costly damage.
The best way to defend a metal roof against salty sea air is with a dependable SEBS rubber roof coating.
Living near the ocean has its perks, but the problems may outweigh them after a few years, especially for buildings with metal roofs. When properly cared for and protected, metal roofs can last 3–7 years longer than typical asphalt shingle roofs, which is why they’re popular on large commercial buildings.
Some copper and zinc roofs have even lasted more than 100 years without replacement. However, salt in the air combined with rain and humidity accelerates metal deterioration, significantly reducing the value of that investment.
Protecting a metal roof from rust and corrosion should be a priority. Rust inhibitors are built directly into RC-2000 from Inland, making it resistant to salts, alkali, and acids.
Any roof treated with this rubber roof coating is actively protected against future damage from salty sea air. It also offers superior weatherability, with high ultraviolet and ozone resistance, contributing to a longer service life for metal roofs.
Metal roofs aren’t the only surfaces RC-2000 can protect. It can also be applied to metal buildings, flashings, and gutters. Modified bitumen and BUR roofs can be protected using this rubber roof coating, as well as EPDM, Hypalon, and TPO roofs.
RC-2000 can also be applied to concrete surfaces and polyurethane foam.
Even the best products can fail if they’re not applied correctly. That’s why Inland works with approved contractors to ensure the application process is followed properly.
Inland’s regional sales manager explains, “the key to any successful roof coating is proper prep work in regards to laps, seams, fasteners, and penetrations. Proper prep reduces callbacks tremendously.”
